Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Kelly-Marie Blundell has condemned the Government’s decision to ‘frack’ for shale gas horizontally.
“The decision today by the Government to ignore Lancashire County Council’s democratic rejection of fracking is damning for local democracy. The Conservatives have ridden roughshod over the peoples’ voices.
“In Lewes our Downs and parks are under threat from an expansion of shale gas extraction. And now our towns, our homes and our villages may also be at risk.
“Last year solar power generated more electricity than coal, yet the Conservatives push on with destroying renewables market, cutting subsidies for solar and wind and instead wrecking our country with shale gas extraction.”
“I’m proud to stand up against fracking, and I believe it’s an insult to democracy, especially from a government that claims to be about local people, to see the public views overridden in this way.”
