Parking restrictions in Malling will improve safety but police need to act too

Lewes Liberal Democrats welcome additional parking restrictions along Old Malling Way proposed by East Sussex County Council.

The Council is consulting residents on plans to introduce additional ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ restrictions in the ‘New Malling’ estate. Residents have until January 26 to make their views known to the council.

“The introduction of additional ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ sections at junctions along Old Malling Way and on the eastern part of the road itself will dramatically improve road safety by improving visibility,” said Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Kelly Marie Blundell.

Bin Lorries struggle to get past carsLocal Lib Dem councillors have been pressing for improvements to parking throughout Malling for years.

“Residents, especially parents, have been increasingly troubled by dangerous parking at junctions and double parking near Police Headquarters, so the extra ‘No Waiting at Any Time restrictions will be welcome’,” said Councillor John Lamb.

“But the latest move will not solve the long-running problems caused by a lack of parking spaces in Police Headquarters itself. Workers at the headquarters will continue to clog the surrounding streets with their cars. The solution is for the Police to bring forward long-promised plans for additional parking in their compound.”
