Seaford Flooding Action

4.38.13pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 1st Feb 2006

Seaford councillors Pat Bennett and Ralph Taylor have helped residents of Brooklyn Road secure protection against flooding of their houses. Brooklyn Road is very low-lying and the road often floods when there is heavy rain.

At the time of the last incident in August 2005 Pat and Ralph got the District Council to provide sandbags to help protect local homes. With the co-operation of Southern Water, an arrangement has now been made for sandbags to be stored at the pumping station on Brooklyn Road.

Local residents have a key to the compound so the sandbags can be quickly moved into position where there is danger of flooding.

Cllr Ralph Taylor said,

" We are very pleased that, with the help of the District Council and the co-operation of Southern Water, agreement has been reached regarding Brooklyn road. This is a longstanding problem and its good that local residents will be able to take preventative action when the need arises."

Cllr Pat Bennett added,

"We will continue to work hard for local residents to tackle flooding problems across our area."
