Lib Dem councillors lobby for money to improve school routes

8.55.18pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 16th Feb 2006

Liberal Democrat Seaford Councillors Jon Freeman and Pat Ost have written to Lewes District Council asking for development funding from any new houses built in Sandringham Close and Barn Close, Seaford, to be used to support improved pedestrian crossings at the Alfriston Road/Sutton Road junctions.

This would make it easier and safer for children to walk to school, who have to cross the busy A259.

Councillor Freeman said:

"The A259 crossing problem has been identified by pupils at Seaford Head Community College in their survey. A safe crossing point would allow more pupils to walk to school giving them a safer, healthier option, and a chance to reduce the pollution and congestion of the 'school run'.

"The Lib Dems are committed to cutting congestion on our roads and providing viable, clean and healthy alternatives for local students to get to school. Hopefully money from the housing developments at Sandringham Close and Barn Close can be used to benefit the local community."
