Local Lib Dems demand improved parking for Polegate12.00.03pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 20th Apr 2006
Polegate MP, Norman Baker, has joined Lib Dem County Councillor Roy Martin in for urgent work on begin on repairing the Town Centre Car Park in Polegate. The car park is vital for local shops and businesses and has been allowed to deteriorate to such an extent that it is becoming a serious health and safety concern. Councillor Martin says: “I know that roads in Sussex historically have been so bad that in the old days you could lose a horse and cart down some of the holes but that is no excuse for the owners to allow the car park to deteriorate so badly. I am making urgent representations to them that proper repairs take place before somebody falls and gets badly hurt." Norman Baker MP adds: “The company that manages the Town Centre Car Park behind Co-op, have a responsibility to local residents to keep the surface up to an adequate standard. Given the recent evidence I found of the unreasonably large fines being imposed by Creative Car Park Management, the company employed to manage the car park, on car users who overstay their allotted time in the car park, I would have thought that they would have plenty of money to level the surface. “I fully support Roy’s efforts on behalf of Polegate residents and hope that they can be made to realise that they are supposed to be providing a quality service not just finding ways of fining shoppers exorbitant amounts for parking.”
