Lib Dems start petition to get Seaford a hospital

8.13.51pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 27th May 2006

Local Lib Dems and Norman Baker MP were on the streets of Seaford on Saturday 20th May gathering signatures for a new petition aimed at putting pressure on the authorities to give the town its own hospital.

Seaford County and Town Councillor, Jon Freeman, said, "The response from the public today has been fantastic. There is real frustration that this issue is not being taken seriously and we want to apply pressure to get some real progress for local people.

"We will continue to campaign on this issue and I think it may well be necessary to hold a public meeting to show the health big-wigs how strongly Seaford feels about this."

Local MP, Norman Baker, added, "A town the size of Seaford needs its own community hospital along the lines of Lewes Victoria. I put this precise issue to the House on 9th May and I will continue to pressure the government to provide adequate healthcare for such an important, growing town. I am today meeting the Chief Executive of Strategic Health Authority, Candy Morris, to push the case further.

"We will be asking local shops to display the petition and we will be taking it to people's doorsteps. It is also available to sign on our website in the 'Sign Our Petitions' section, and a printable copy can be downloaded from the 'Download Area' of the site."
