Lib Dems fight for new Cradle Hill Community Centre5.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 7th Jul 2006
Local Lib Dems including Norman Baker MP, County councillor Jon Freeman, District Council Lead Member for Community, Liz Lee, and local District councillor Tracy Willis, are supporting a campaign to get a proper centre built for local residents. The popular facility is currently little more than a Portakabin that is totally inadequate for the demands being placed upon it. Local residents and politicians are coming together to appeal for help to get a new building to replace the existing structure for which they have been campaigning for more than 7 years. Norman says: "It is high time that residents in Cradle Hill had a proper purpose-built community centre. The District Council has done a magnificent job of working closely with local residents to keep the old facility running but the time has come for a permanent solution to be found. I hope that a way can be found by my Lib Dem colleagues working at all levels of government to secure a better future for this crucial community facility." Seaford North councillor, Tracy Willis, who has been closely involved with the centre for many years adds: "As a local resident and councillor I am desperate to see this facility upgraded to a more satisfactory structure. Currently it is far too small we need something about twice the size to adequately provide the services that the Centre does for the local community. "Hopefully by working together with Norman, Jon Freeman on the County Council, and with the support of Liz Lee, the District Council’s Lead Member for Community, we can find a positive outcome for people in Cradle Hill."
