Lib Dems announce Richard as Newick candidate10.34.57am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 26th Jul 2006
Newick Liberal Democrats have selected local man Richard Harpley to stand for them at next year's District Council elections. Richard and his wife Jane have lived in Newick for over three years and works as a director for a major energy network business. He has pledged, if elected, to put Newick first and work for local people. He will campaign to get better transport provision for the village as well as encouraging local business, and ensuring future planning applications are closely monitored to protect the character of the village. Richard he involved with a number of village societies and is a governor at Priory School in Lewes. Speaking about his selection Richard says: "I am pleased to be given this opportunity to represent the area in which I live. Newick needs a sustainable future and I hope to be able to play a role in securing that future for local people. If I'm elected I will work with local people to get the best deal for Newick and its residents." Local MP, Norman Baker, backs Richard's campaign: "I am delighted that Richard has been selected to stand in Newick. He is local man who is professional, competent, caring, and will put Newick first."
