Council to organise major clean-up in Landport

1.09.41pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 29th Sep 2006

Local MP, Norman Baker, has won a promise from Lewes District Council over the recent build-up of litter in the Landport Estate.

Following pressure from the MP who has been contacted by concerned constituents, who mentioned the state of local footpaths such as that leading from Cabbage Walk to The Pells in particular, the Council has told Norman that it is to organise a general tidy up of the area.

Norman has welcomed the news saying: "I am very pleased to hear of the clean-up of the Landport Estate, and am glad the Council is taking action following my representations. These measures should improve the general appearance of the area to the benefit of the whole community."

Local campaigner, David Gray, adds: "I welcome this initiative from the District Council. I, along with others in the local community, am working closely with local councils to get the best deal for residents in Landport.

"People deserve a comfortable and clean environment in which to live their day-to-day lives. I am pleased that the District Council is working with us in a constructive way to improve our area."
