Lib Dems seek action on Newick Youth Shelter

12.26.04pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 8th Nov 2006

Local Lib Dem candidate, Richard Harpley, is concerned about anti-social behaviour in Newick centred around the youth shelter at the Recreation Ground.

There have been reports from people living near the shelter of vandalism and threatening behaviour.

"It was hoped that the youth shelter would engender some ownership and commitment from youngsters to reduce vandalism and other anti-social behaviour. Unfortunately there have been many complaints that the facility is being abused.

"I want to work with local young people to get better facilities in the village. I supported a permanent youth centre as part of the outline plans for a replacement village hall.

"We should now seek out ideas for a sustainable facility, as the shelter in its current location is clearly unsuitable."
