Local Lib Dems, such as Tom, are determined keep our post office network safe.

Local Lib Dems have today launched a campaign to save our local post offices from extinction. Lewes Constituency MP, Norman backed an opposition motion to parliament on Wednesday (10th Jan) that advocated allowing post offices more freedom to expand their business.

Our post office network has been in long-term decline under successive governments with 4000 post offices closing under the current Labour government, and some 3500 under their Conservative predecessors. The Lib Dems are committed to saving our post office network and are raising a petition locally to increase pressure on the government to listen to people's concerns.

Local MP, Norman Baker, says: "We are fortunate to have a number of successful small post offices across our area from villages such as Firle and Ditchling, to larger towns like Seaford. I am very concerned that these facilities do not come under threat due to cost-cutting. I will do all I can to ensure that these popular local businesses are kept open."

Lib Dem campaigner, Tom Hawthorne, adds: "Our post office here in Plumpton is a well-used and popular local facility. It serves as both a place to use postal services and a natural hub for the local community. The value of small community post offices cannot be measured in terms of financial profit, but as an asset used by local people that binds the village together."

Petitions are being put in local post office branches, or alternatively the petition can be signed through our website.
