Local councillor Rosalyn St. Pierre and Lewes MP Norman Baker are demanding an urgent review of the parking scheme from the county council.

Lib Dem-run Lewes District Council is demanding an urgent and comprehensive review of the Conservative county council's parking scheme.

"The parking scheme has become completely overblown and is not serving the purpose for which it was designed." says Lewes Bridge councillor James MacCleary. "Every week we hear about people being given tickets for the most minor infringements, sometimes even being ticketed in the time between leaving their vehicle to buy a ticket and returning!"

"We call on the County Council to conduct an urgent and thorough review of the Lewes parking scheme."

Lib Dem councillor Rosalyn St. Pierre says: "The scheme is losing credibility due to the heavy-handed way in which it is implemented, and without public support and participation it does nothing to reduce the number of people using cars in the town."

Local MP Norman Baker says: "Enough is enough. The warden-intensive approach of NCP has swung public opinion firmly against the scheme and I believe drastic changes are now needed." He adds: "The county council cannot carry on as they are and must listen to local people who want changes to this scheme."
