David has campaigned for a speed limit on the C7.

Local residents in all the villages along the C7 from Newhaven to Lewes have long campaigned for a speed limit lower than the national 60mph.

This came out strongly during the consultation process for the Local Area Transport Strategy, which involved all the parish councils and some wider meetings.

Whilst most want a limit of 40mph, this would involve physical changes to the road layout in places, and the money for this is not currently available. So as a step in the right direction, a new 50mph limit will be brought in soon. The work to finalise the legalities and put up the signs should take place before the end of June.

County councillor David Rogers said: "This compromise of 50mph is a good start, but I shall still try to achieve 40mph in the future. There's also much more to be done to make the road safer when funding becomes available next year."
