Polegate councillor Roy Martin has welcomed funding for renewable systems for older people.

Roy Martin, Lib Dem Champion for Older People for Wealden has welcomed a new grant from Wealden District Council for renewable energy.

He said "From September 2008, there will be a new grant for people age 60 to 70 where the household is in receipt of working tax credit or households in fuel poverty. The grant will cover 100% costs for renewable energy systems such as solar thermal for water heating and insulation."

He added "Although I would have preferred the age limit to have been lower, this will clearly be helpful to some of those older people who have contacted me with their concerns about the ever rising costs of keeping their homes warm in the winter. Residents may contact me for further information or Wealden District Council."
