Success in campaign for Ringmer cycle path5.27.10pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Apr 2009
Calls to build a new cycle path between Ringmer and Lewes have come to fruition following a sustained campaign by local Lib Dem councillors. Ringmer County Councillor, Rosalyn St Pierre says: "The county council was considering cancelling the plans and returning the money to the developer so I pushed them to reconsider. They should start building soon, and the first section should be completed within 2 years." Councillor St Pierre challenged the Conservative-run county council at last week's full council to explain the hold-up with the project. The county relented and have agreed to go ahead with the project. Rosalyn adds: "This is a really important route for commuters going to Lewes station, and students going to Ringmer College as well as recreational cyclists. The road to Ringmer is currently too narrow and fast for young people in particular to cycle in complete safety. I am delighted that the county council have seen sense and are going ahead with this plan."
