Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable, visiting independent traders in Lewes.

Vince Cable, Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor, visited Lewes today to discuss the effect of the recession on local traders.

Vince visited two independent shops run by women on Lewes High Street including Kilim carpets, and ladies fashion boutique Renwick Clark, the winner of a 2008 window display competition. He was accompanied by local MP Norman Baker and Lewes District Council leader Ann De Vecchi.

Later this morning he met with traders from Seaford and Lewes at a town hall meeting. Traders raised issues such as bank lending, increases in rent despite the downturn, public service pensions and excessively high pay of top public servants.
