Save Ringmer and Polegate's Libraries

Conservative run East Sussex County Council is planning to close Ringmer and Polegate's libraries, cutting off our local communities from a vital service. They are also planning to axe the mobile library which serves smaller villages across the county. These closures are unnecessary and detrimental to local communities, and Liberal Democrats are campaigning to have these proposed cuts reversed. Please sign our petition and add your voice to stop these cuts.

Part of the County Council's justification is that Ringmer and Polegate residents live within a twenty minute drive or a thirty minute bus journey of another library. They ignore the fact that many people do not have the time or the money to go to those libraries when they are open. Our libraries provide valuable services to elderly people, disabled people, unemployed people, parents with children - in fact to the whole community. The County Council sees our libraries as wholly functional, and limited functions at that - helping children to learn to read and adults to get jobs. They don't understand that our libraries are part of our communities, and help all the people within them to live and breathe. They are part of the fabric of our communities, and will be torn away to be sacrificed, like so many of our public services.
