Lewes MP Votes For Raw Sewage In Rivers

Recently promoted Lewes MP Maria Caulfield, Minister for Patient Safety and Primary Care, clearly hasn’t read the job description as she joined 264 of her Conservative colleagues to vote down an amendment to stop private water companies from dumping raw sewage into the UK’s rivers and coastlines.

CL_Beach_huts_600.jpgLiberal Democrat Councillor Carolyn Lambert comments: “This is astonishing hypocrisy on the part of the Conservative government who claim that they care about the environment. Maria Caulfield constantly reminds people of her background as a nurse, yet she seems not to understand the health dangers of raw sewage in our rivers.

"With COP26 coming up shortly, it is difficult to see how anyone can continue to claim that the Conservatives have the first understanding of environmental issues”.
