Ringmer swimming pool petition to be considered

The petition on the swimming pool launched by Ringmer Liberal Democrats will be considered by the County Council's Lead Member for Resources on Tuesday 25 June.

philip_daniel_04_portrait.jpgRingmer and Lewes Bridge County Councillor, Philip Daniel, says,

“I taught some of my children to swim at Ringmer Pool. Its future matters to residents in Ringmer and beyond, and to me personally.”

The petition started by Lib Dems and supported by some 140 residents simply says,

"We call on East Sussex County Council to guarantee that the Ringmer Swimming Pool will remain open, and that, before any decision is taken that would result in a significant reduction in community availability, it will discuss all options with Ringmer residents, the school and other authorities."

Councillor Daniel added: “In responding to this petition it’s not enough for ESCC simply to roll the response up into the annual budget process. In view of the pressure on County finances that response isn’t reassuring.  Consultation on budget cuts tends to come only AFTER the budget has been set. The Ringmer Swimming Pool is a vital part of the Community and, if it’s under threat, consultation needs to start now.”
