Seaford Liberal Democrats with Kelly-Marie Blundell today are launching a major campaign to save Seaford's train services.
After 18 months of delays, cancellations and timetable changes, residents of Seaford are shocked that GTR, who run Southern Rail, are now proposing to remove peak time trains which travel direct from Seaford to Victoria, instead forcing hundreds of people to change at Lewes.
This is being done under the guise of reducing journey times for other towns, but it is Seaford and Newhaven who will suffer most.
You can read the consultation here and the relevant paragraphs on the Seaford line are on pages 25 and 26.
Kelly-Marie Blundell and Seaford Lib Dems are calling for residents to sign the petition here to reject the proposed changes to the time table, something that is a very bitter cherry on the top of months of disruption.
County Councillor Carolyn Lambert condemned the proposal, saying;
"We have had enough. Hundreds of people across Seaford travel to London every day, and every single one is fed up with delays. For Southern Rail to suggest it is Seaford's direct train at fault is ridiculous. We must oppose this move and make sure we keep our peak time service"
Kelly-Marie Blundell, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate also slammed proposals;
"The failings of Southern Rail to run a railway are not the fault of Seaford's direct train, they are the fault of the Conservative government failing to address contract changes.
This proposal will add misery to commuters' lives, and quite simply, we've all had enough."
