Back the campaign to get better trains on the Brighton to Seaford line and a freeze to rail fares that are being raised again in March by the Conservative government.
Brighton to Seaford line trains
They have been in use for a number of years after being brought down from London. The trains have no toilet facilities, making many people with disabilities unable to use the trains.
A number of services have been permanently axed, and the line sees frequent delays and cancellations.
We are calling for the Department for Transport to:
- Immediately replace with newer models the trains running on the Seaford-Brighton line which are the oldest running anywhere in Britain
- Discount fares on the Seaford line to reflect the substandard trains until newer models are introduced
- Restore direct rush hour services to London from Seaford and back
This will benefit thousands of commuters in Seaford, Newhaven, Lewes and many villages. It will make using the railway a much better option.
Rail fare freeze
Lib Dems are calling for a freeze on rail fares for the next five years. It comes as the government has announced an increase of 3.8% from March this year.
The increase means Lewes has now joined the '5000 Club' as a standard class season ticket to London now costs over £5,000 a year. As the government's cost of living crisis worsens, it is outrageous to expect local commuters to pay more and more simply to travel to work.
Sign below to tell the Department for Transport to sort out the Seaford-Brighton train line, and freeze rail fares for the next five years.
