Lewes is about to lose its last remaining high street bank when Lloyds closes its branch on 19 January 2026. This will leave our town without any full-service bank, putting local businesses, older residents, and those without digital access at a serious disadvantage.
We, the undersigned, call on LINK – the UK’s cash access and ATM network – to urgently establish a Banking Hub in Lewes. These hubs provide shared services from major banks and the Post Office, ensuring continued access to cash, face-to-face banking, and financial support for everyone in our community.
Why this matters:
- Local businesses need access to cash services and regular deposits to operate effectively.
- Older people and digitally excluded residents rely on in-person support to manage their finances.
- Banking Hubs have already helped towns like ours across the UK – Lewes deserves the same.

Lewes Banking Hub
We urge LINK to: * Recognise Lewes as a priority location for a Banking Hub. * Work with local stakeholders to deliver a solution before the Lloyds branch closes. * Ensure that access to cash and in-person banking remains available to all. Add your name to show your support. Together, we can protect access to essential banking services in Lewes.
🗣️ Edwina Livesey, Lewes Town Council (Lib Dem)
“Bank closures hit towns like Lewes hard. We need a Banking Hub to ensure that no one is left behind – especially older residents and small businesses who depend on cash and face-to-face services.”
🗣️ Cllr Kevin West, Lewes Town Council (Lib Dem)
“Lewes is a proud, independent town with a strong local economy. Removing banking services undermines that. A Banking Hub would restore access and dignity to those who need it most.”
🗣️ Cllr Janet Baah, Lewes District Council (Lib Dem)
“This is about inclusion. Not everyone can or wants to bank online. A Banking Hub is a practical, proven solution that meets the needs of our whole community.”
