Don’t Scrap East Sussex’s Net Zero Commitment
East Sussex County Council’s Reform administration is proposing to abandon the Council’s commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
We believe this would be a serious step backwards for East Sussex.
Preparing our county for extreme weather and reducing the emissions that contribute to climate change should go hand in hand. Cutting energy use and investing in more efficient buildings also reduces costs for taxpayers, while helping to protect our environment for future generations.
East Sussex County Council has been committed to becoming carbon neutral since declaring a climate emergency in 2019. We should be building on that work, not walking away from it.
We, the undersigned, call on East Sussex County Council to retain its commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and continue taking practical, cost-effective action to protect our environment.
