Revealed - Govt Have No Plan for Childcare Crisis

James MacCleary's PMQ reveals the government has no plan for fixing the childcare crisis after he demanded action from the Deputy Prime Minister.
James MacCleary, MP for the Lewes constituency, today pressed the Deputy Prime Minister during Prime Minister’s Questions on the growing staffing crisis in nurseries both across his constituency and the wider country.
Nurseries throughout the Lewes constituency have repeatedly raised concerns with James about their struggles to recruit and retain qualified early years staff. Providers are facing unprecedented staffing pressures, putting immense strain on the quality of care available for young children and their families.
Speaking after today’s exchange in Parliament, James said: “In the Deputy Prime Minister’s response today, she revealed that the govt shamefully doesn’t have a plan. This crisis demands urgent action. Our nurseries provide vital support to families and a crucial foundation for young children's development. Without immediate action, we risk letting down an entire generation.
“Across Lewes, Seaford, Newhaven and our wonderful villages, families are grappling with a challenge that’s all too familiar: childcare. High-quality, affordable early years education isn’t just some abstract issue debated in Westminster – it’s the backbone of our communities. As a proud dad of two little ones myself, I know just how vital it is for families across our area.
“I’ve visited many nurseries and early years settings since being elected, and I have been struck by how stark the situation is. This is an impending crisis that will affect children and families across my constituency.
“I will continue to press the government at every opportunity to ensure our early years workforce is properly supported and all children receive the high-quality early education they deserve.”
