"Royal Mail are failing my constituents"

James MacCleary, MP for Lewes constituency, has slammed Royal Mail as just 71.3% of first-class deliveries in the Brighton (BN) area were delivered on time, well below the 93% target.

It means that 21.7% of first-class deliveries in the Brighton (BN) area were delivered late.

James has now called for greater accountability on missed targets to help improve parcel delivery and turn around a service that is “failing people here in the Lewes constituency". He also called on the regulator OFCOM to step in and “act on these unacceptable delays”.

James said: “I regularly have constituents getting in touch about the shocking delays they are experiencing: post in Ringmer delivered 12 days late, post in Stone Cross delivered 10 days late. Magazine subscriptions in Lewes are being delivered a week too late – week on week.

“These missed targets are shocking and are leaving countless people in the lurch here in Seaford, Newhaven, Lewes, Willingdon, Stone Cross, Ringmer and across our local villages. People rely on these deliveries and having them arrive on time to go about their lives and should not be forced to put up with this disruption.

“This saga has been going on for far too long and people are rightly sick to the back teeth of it. It is time OFCOM stepped in to act on these unacceptable delays and hold this failing service accountable for letting people down here in the constituency of Lewes."
