An important green space in our area, by Surrey Road, has been proposed as a site for development with the construction of new houses.
This potential development deeply misunderstands the importance of the space to the community and local environment. In an area with many families and retirees, this untouched land acts as a vital green space that deserves to be enjoyed by residents in Seaford and Bishopstone.
Surrey Road’s natural area is notably biodiverse, a home for many plants and various animal species such as badgers. This green haven contributes to our town’s important wildlife, a central aspect of our town nestled between the Downs and the sea.
We want to see more affordable housing which is responsibly built, not hectic building on any green spaces available.
The green space on Surrey Road is not a viable place for construction. The Seaford Neighbourhood Plan investigated this area for development recently, and found it to be unsuitable for development.
As your local councillor, I am continuing to contact the Lewes District Council Planning Team to find out more, and will do all I can to support residents on this issue. I don’t want us to lose this lovely green space.
