Sussex local government reorganisation

How to respond to the proposals

Local government reorganisation is proposed for next year, introducing a mayor for the whole Sussex region (East Sussex, West Sussex, and Brighton and Hove), removing the district councils, and forming (probably) three super authorities with roughly similar populations. Brighton and Hove have proposed to form one of these authorities by taking in with them Newhaven and the Rodmell / Kingston area. Lewes Liberal Democrats oppose these proposals. It is clear that Newhaven, Kingston and the other villages align much more readily with East Sussex than with Brighton.

None of these places (Newhaven, Kingston, Rodmell, Piddinghoe, Falmer, Southease, Iford, Swanborough, Northease and St Ann (without)) share the predominant characteristics of the Brighton & Hove City Council area. Their needs, priorities, and identity are better served by remaining within East Sussex County Council.

If you agree with us, please make your points to either or both of the Lewes and Brighton council surveys.
